I was recently commissioned by a musician to help him with a project. He wanted me to recreate the painting ‘Isle of the dead’ (see original - last pic) by the Swiss symbolist Arnold Böcklin. A painting that inspired Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff to compose a symphonic poem. My client wanted me to do a modern recreation of the painting, so that he could in turn do a modern recreation of the symphony. -
This was a lot of fun, I wanted my version onto be much more dark and intimidating, whilst retaining aspects of the the original, like the tombs carved into the mountain and the sailor transporting the statue.
